About Taneen Rudyk

Taneen grew up in the Vegreville, Alberta area, returning after studying and working in Japan and Edmonton to raise a growing family. As a busy volunteer and community activist, Taneen has dedicated many hours to improving the governance capacity, fundraising ability, and creative conflict resolution of local and larger organizations while also owning and operating businesses alongside her husband.
Professionally, Taneen worked for both provincial and federal orders of government in a variety of roles from counseling high-needs teens to issuing work permits and study visas to training election workers.
Taneen was first elected in 2010 to Vegreville Town Council, effectively representing citizens and advocating for her community. In 2015, she completed the Elected Officials Education Program, a complement to her BA in Political Science. Appointed Director for Towns East for the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association in 2016, Taneen excelled in the role, finding inspiration working for Alberta local governments. In 2017 Taneen was awarded Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce and in 2018 Taneen received a Municipal Award of Excellence, a true honour to receive the recognition of colleagues, peers, and community members.
From 2017-2020 Taneen was elected annually as an Alberta representative on the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Board, chairing various committees as well as serving as the Governance Representative for the Towards Parity in Municipal Politics initiative. Elected to the Table Officers’ Table first in 2019, Taneen was President for FCM in 2022 and currently holds the title of Past-President a role that has provided the opportunity to speak on behalf of municipal leaders from coast to coast to coast and champion best practices of local decision-makers.
The 2023 Provincial Election saw Taneen take a leave from her municipal responsibilities and run in the Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville riding, another opportunity to provide a voice to those in rural communities.
Taneen has dedicated her career to making the world better by improving communities and crafting pragmatic solutions that bring people together with integrity and is excited to bring her energy to the Alberta Counsel team.
