Richard Gotfried

Richard Gotfried is a proud born and raised Calgarian, business and community leader who was privileged to serve as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 2015-2023representing the constituency of Calgary-Fish Creek, where he has lived for over 30 years.

Mr. Gotfried served as Chair of the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund, Vice Chair of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, and as a member of the Standing Committee on Families and Communities, the Standing Committee on Privileges and Elections, Standing Orders and Printing, the Standing Committee on Economic Futures while also serving as President of the Pacific Northwest Economic Region and Chairing Alberta’s Facility-Based Continuing Care Review Expert Panel. He currently serves as Chair of Alberta’s Strategic Aviation Advisory Council, which was formed through unanimous, all-party passage of a Private Member’s Bill he sponsored in the Legislative Assembly. He also currently serves as a Director of the Saddledome Foundation.

Prior to his election to the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Gotfried spent 2 decades in senior local management with Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific Airways and devoted a dozen years to his role as a senior executive tor Calgary-based land developer and residential construction leader, The Trico Group of Companies. He also served 2 years as Vice-President of Corporate and Community Engagement with Calgary Economic Development, while also having embarked on entrepreneurial ventures in landscaping, electronics and tourism throughout his varied career.

He was named International Airline Executive of the Year in 1990 by Agent Canada, and in 2007 received a community service award from the Canadian Home Builders’ Association. In 2023, Richard was the first recipient of the Economic Developers of Alberta “Leadership in Public Service” award. He has also served on and led many business, non-profit and community-based organizations, having co-founded Alberta’s first dragon boat racing festival in 1992, while volunteering for such organizations as the Kids Cancer Care Foundation, GlobalFest multicultural festival, Chinatown Street Festival, the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, Bow Valley Ranche and Friends of Fish Creek Societies.

He is also proud to have researched, created and established Calgary’s first attainable home ownership program, while he remains active in the seniors and affordable housing sectors and is a champion for innovation and evolution of continuing care.

Mr. Gotfried holds an Executive Management certificate from the University of Hong Kong and studied political science and economics at the University of Calgary. He also completed an Executive Certificate in Corporate and Community Involvement from the Carroll School of Management at Boston College and is committed to being a lifelong learner.
